Mechanical Engineer (Full-time Position)

Advanced Prototype Engineering (APROE) is a San Francisco-based company specializing in prototyping new designs and the planning and set up of high-end machine shops.  We offer a casual work environment in a great section of the Design District, a full machine shop, and have relationships with prominent Bay Area tech and design firms.

The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical engineer capable of developing designs from concept to fully functioning prototype. They are a good researcher, communicator, and organizer. The mechanical engineer must be able to envision multiple possible solutions for any given problem and weigh conflicting constraints to arrive at the best possible option.

This is a full-time position working at our facility. Remote or hybrid work will not be considered. APROE seeks candidates that are upbeat, communicative, drama-averse, eager to learn, and who get things done.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent mechanical design and build experience from either formal education and 5+ years work experience, or substantial on-the-job training during 7+ years work experience. An engineering degree is strongly preferred.
  • Able to work with clients, engineers, and third-party vendors to develop designs from concept to functioning prototype.
  • Fluency with at least one 3D CAD modeling package, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Excellent organizational skills throughout the design and build process and the ability to demonstrate this through project spreadsheets, CAD model structures and part management.
  • Strong, practical, working knowledge of manual and CNC machining, water jet cutting, laser cutting, welding, sheet metal forming.
  • Competent in analyzing basic problems of heat transfer, mechanical deformation, fluids, and circuits.

  • Ability to travel by car and air to client
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and work on a computer
  • Ability to pick up 50 pounds
  • Work at APROE headquarters 5 days per week
