Facility Setup Team Lead

Facility Setup Team Lead

APROE is a San Francisco prototyping company, with a unique specialty in the design and creation of advanced R&D facilities. We work with some of the Bay Area’s most prominent tech and design companies. We are currently searching for an experienced candidate to lead our Facility Setup division.

The ideal applicant is an experienced Architect, Project Engineer, or Project Manager with outstanding written, verbal, and visual communication skills and with demonstrated success managing numerous concurrent large-scale projects. Project work involves hands-on work in the design and build-out of client facilities, with an emphasis on the equipment in the space and how people interact with it. Critical skills/abilities include rapidly integrating into ongoing projects, providing relevant insights and guidance with brief familiarization, and staying on top of many quickly-moving  targets.

The potential hire needs to be an efficient conduit of information between disparate stakeholders including clients, architects, MEP engineers, general contractors, riggers, machine vendors, etc. Our subject matter is varied enough to require reliance on a number of experts for guidance — but familiarity with construction processes, architectural design, shop tools, and laboratory equipment is required. The ideal candidate should possess years of knowledge, experience, and multiple completed projects at an architectural firm or with a general contractor; as well as deep working knowledge of every aspect of new-facility realization, from the planning stages through to Final Delivery of Building. Familiarity with Revit is a plus allowing for opening, viewing, and making minor edits to drawings created by APROE’s CAD specialist.

You are upbeat and communicative, drama-averse, self-starting, self-directing, and eager to learn. You should be equally comfortable in the shop, the office, the worksite, and in client-facing opportunities. This position reports to the Director and will be part of a team of 2-7 people working together on several shared projects. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary. We think the diversity of our team makes us stronger, and we encourage qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

Initial Duties:

  • Work directly with the Director to learn the established protocol and apply a tested and established methodology to new and evolving project work.
  • Track budgets and timelines while juggling multiple other tasks, prioritizing accordingly.
  • Coordinate rapidly-changing details regarding construction, purchasing, installation, timeline, and budget.
  • Conduct and oversee machine research, speaking with vendors and other machine experts.
  • Meet with internal Project Managers, CAD specialists, and Researchers to provide guidance on key decision and communication points.
  • Attend client meetings and establish and manage communication lines between Architects, Client User Groups, General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Equipment Vendors.
  • Track research efforts using APROE’s templates and tools.
  • Coordinate CAD models of machines and buildings using internal resources.
  • Manage and review architectural drawing sets to meet client deadlines.
  • Manage APROE’s internal machine database and client shared tracking spreadsheets.
  • Manage proposals for new client projects.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years experience in a senior level position.
  • Architectural training, or equivalent facility-development experience.
  • High-level proficiency in creating, editing, and checking architectural drawing sets.
  • Basic familiarity with Autodesk Revit is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat (experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus).
  • Excellent command of the spoken and written word, including technical terms and jargon.

Requirements:

  • Ability to travel by car and air.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to pick up 50 pounds.
  • Ability to negotiate construction sites in various stages of completion, including stairs and other obstacles.
